GREEN BAY, Wisc. – Former Central Michigan University cornerback Josh Gordy was released Saturday by the Green Bay Packers.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound cornerback played in two games last season for the Packers, making one tackle after being activated from the Packers’ practice squad.

He originally signed as an undrafted free agent with Jacksonville, but was waived and picked up by the Packers.

Gordy was a four-year starter for CMU, appearing in 47 games. He finished with 212 tackles and 10 interceptions.

– A high-ranking Green Bay Packers official adamantly denies reports that the team has notified players to report Saturday in the event the NFL lockout ends.
The team official said the organization internally has made contingencies that include contacting players for travel arrangements, because the majority of its players do not reside in the immediate Green Bay area.

However, the official was emphatic that players have not been notified, formally or informally, to report to team headquarters Saturday.

ProFootballTalk.com, citing an unnamed source, reported Monday that the Packers have begun contacting players to report to a team meeting Saturday. But the NFL has not authorized any teams to begin contacting players, including allowing for brief contact with players about logistics.

During the Packers’ Super Bowl ring ceremony last month, sources say several young players had questions about the logistics of getting to camp but were informed that the organization was not allowed to discuss those details.

The official did concede that veteran players are allowed to communicate to teammates that they should be prepared to report Saturday on a voluntary basis for medical exams and informal meetings once the NFL gives the green light under contingency plans known as the “Transition Rules.”

The Green Bay Packers have been told to get ready to report for a team meeting on Saturday, according to reports.

While negotiations to end the NFL lockout are ongoing, the Green Bay Packers have asked players to be ready to return to the team’s facility on Saturday for a meeting, according to Pro Football Talk.

The source who spoke to PFT said that this is the first step to starting on training camp preparations, and players will be able to return to Lambeau Field early as Friday. The report has also been confirmed by ESPN‘s Jason Wilde, who also suggested that the Packers may have violated the lockout’s no-contact rule in letting the players know about Saturday’s meeting.

As for the lockout, the NFL wants team executives ready to be schooled in the ins and outs of a new labor contract as early as Thursday. Players are gathering in Washington so they’re ready to vote on an agreement in principle even sooner than that.

Lawyers for both sides were scheduled to meet with a court-appointed mediator in New York on Tuesday, when representatives of retired players were expected to participate, too, in an attempt to close a deal to resolve the NFL’s first work stoppage since 1987.

The regular-season opener is scheduled for Sept. 8, when the Super Bowl champion Packers are to host the New Orleans Saints.

Packers’ Rodgers ruled out against Patriots with concussion

CHICAGO (Reuters) â€“ Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers is still suffering the effects of a concussion from last week and will not play against the New England Patriots Sunday.

The team announced Saturday that third-year backup Matt Flynn would make his first start and the Packers have signed rookie quarterback Graham Harrell from the practice squad to back him up.

Rodgers, who was injured in last Sunday’s loss to Detroit, did not practice with the team during the week but had not been ruled out until Saturday when the Packers revealed he was unable to progress through the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Rodgers suffered a concussion earlier this season during an overtime loss to the Washington Redskins on October 10. He was cleared for action four days later.

Rodgers had started 45 consecutive regular-season games for the Packers, and Flynn’s start will be the first by a backup for Green Bay since 1992.
