Rodgers will start for Packers, but LB Matthews’ status doubtful

It appears quarterback Aaron Rodgers will start Sunday for the Green Bay Packers, but linebacker Clay Matthews — the NFL’s sack leader with 8.5 — is listed as doubtful and will be a gametime decision, coach Mike McCarthy said Friday.

Chad Clifton was benched in favor of first-round rookie Bryan Bulaga during Sunday’s victory over the Buffalo Bills, and Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he made the move because Clifton “didn’t look healthy.” Continued knee soreness is putting Clifton’s availability against the Bears in doubt.

Clay Matthews sacked Edwards three times and the Green Bay Packers’ defense dominated a sluggish Bills offense in a 34-7 victory at Lambeau Field on Sunday. That’s six sacks in two games for Matthews — not bad for a guy who sat out most of training camp with a hamstring injury.
